Car Rental Lisbon Airport

Humberto Delgado Airport, or Lisbon Airport, is one of Europe’s largest airports and the country’s main airport. Lisbon Airport is conveniently located 7 km northeast of Lisbon’s historic city center, making it easy to navigate to and from the airport. Lisbon Airport first started to operate in 1942 and mostly performed continental flights. After the end of WW2, the airport saw major development and started operating both transatlantic and continental flights. The first terminal was expanded in 1952, and four runways of one kilometer long each were used from 1951 to 1959. In 1962, a new runway was built to accommodate the needs of larger aircraft, and the terminal and overall facilities were enlarged.

The main terminal (T1) was fully operational from 1983 onwards, and the T2 terminal was initially constructed in 2007 to operate domestic flights. Nowadays, Terminal 1 serves most of the arrivals and departures, both domestic and international, and Terminal 2 is mostly used by low-cost airlines. Lisbon International Airport is one of the few European airports near the city center, but because of its high traffic and flight frequency, it faces several issues. Humberto Delgado Airport, which handles about 28 million people annually, has seen multiple expansions and structural upgrades and was the busiest single-runway airport in Europe in 2019. The easiest and most flexible way to move around to and from the airport is definitely by car rental. Car Hire Lisbon Airport

Lisbon Airport, or Portela Airport, was renamed to Humberto Delgado Airport in 2015 in memory of a Portuguese Air Force general. Since 1983, Lisbon Airport has experienced several developments, such as improvement of infrastructure, expansion of Terminal 1 and new boarding gates, air bridges, and an overall better use of its facilities. Six low-cost airlines use Terminal 2 to depart to European destinations, whereas Terminal 1 is responsible for all arrivals and regularly scheduled and chartered flights. The airport now has sixteen airbridges, two terminals, larger parking and shopping areas, a huge duty free area, as well as many means of transportation to and from the airport. However, it still lacks improvement and is not able to fully meet the passengers' and flight traffic needs. The main terminal faces insufficient capacity issues concerning passport and passenger control and long queues in the waiting, bag drop-off, and security areas. In order to navigate the airport worry-free and leave enough time for security control and baggage drop-off, it is advisable to arrive at the airport at least two hours prior to your departure. During peak times, Terminal 2 tends to be overcrowded, and passenger confusion and lack of organization are highly apparent. So, allow yourself some time to travel worry-free and without stress. When arriving or departing from Lisbon Airport, a car rental is your best bet to minimize travel distance, confusion, and waiting time. Our experienced staff will be waiting for you at the airport’s arrival gate to take you to your chosen vehicle. Try Imperial Car Rental and experience Lisbon worry-free!

Rental Car Lisbon Airport

Lisbon Airport serves as the main getaway to Portugal but it’s also the main European airport operating flights to Brazil. In general, it is a significant international hub offering a wide range of facilities for both business and leisure travelers. It is the main hub for TAP Air Portugal as well as for EasyJet and Ryanair. It is the 12th-largest airport in Europe and an important airport operating flights to Africa and Latin America. Lisbon International Airport, or Humberto Delgado Airport, is about to be replaced by Luís de Camões Airport, which will be located in Alcochete. Because of the financial crisis, the Portuguese government delayed its construction, but it has been determined that the new airport will be operational in 2034. Even though the current Lisbon Airport receives high numbers of passengers on an annual basis, it requires expansion and development plans in order to accommodate the increasing passengers' needs. Lisbon Airport is a major European airport serving flights to and from Europe, Brazil, and certain African countries. The most well-known airlines that use Lisbon Airport for domestic or international flights include TAP Portugal, Azores Airlines, easyJet, Ryanair, Iberojet, World2Fly, Transavia, and Wizz Air.

Rent a Car Loures

Loures is a city located 11 km away from Lisbon Airport and is one of the most populous municipalities in the country. Loures consists of three different areas: the rural, urban, and industrial, the latter being to the east. Loures' most notable sights and attractions include the historical Santa Maria Church of Loures, the Palace of Correio-Mor, and Parque da Cidade de Loures. The Santa Maria Church was constructed in the 12th century and was redesigned and rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake. This rare yellow Catholic Church and declared National Monument offers a beautiful pastel interior with impressive gilded decoration in oil paintings and frescoes. There is also a large tree-lined outdoor space and parking areas. Nearby, you’ll find the Grelha do Miradouro restaurant, where you can enjoy your lunch after your visit to the church. The lovely Baroque-style Palácio do Correio-Mor consists of a palatial residence with a courtyard, vast green areas, and a two-floor building adorned with azulejos and paintings. Many events, weddings, and ceremonies are held in the palace year-round. Parque da Cidade de Loures is a nice spot for practicing sports, walking your dog, or having a family picnic in its wide green spaces. Loures doesn’t have a wide option of hotels but has some guesthouses where you can book accommodation, like the Salero Guesthouse and the Quinta Nova Guesthouse.
